Elite Promotions Group will hold The Chicago Nations Cup, a preseason match between English Premier League club Crystal Palace and Categoria Primera A’s Millonarios FC out of Colombia, at SeatGeek Stadium in Bridgeview, Illinois, on July 26, as part of Palace’s U.S. tour that also includes a match against La Liga’s Sevilla at Comerica Park in Detroit on July 30.
The Chicago Nations Cup will mark the return of international football to Chicago, a city that has hosted teams such as Manchester United, Bayern Munich, AC Milan and Paris Saint-Germain in the past. The match will be played at SeatGeek Stadium, former home of MLS’ Chicago Fire and current home of the NWSL’s Chicago Red Stars.
“The team at Elite Promotions Group are delighted to bring such prestigious clubs from both the English Premier League and Colombian Categoria Primera A,” Elite Promotions Group Co-Founder Michael Libber said. “SeatGeek Stadium is such an iconic venue with an incredible atmosphere and the match itself will be a great spectacle for both sets offans and soccer fans in general.”
Crystal Palace is currently 12th in the English Premier League and the Eagles will enter their 11th consecutive season in the top-flight of English football next season. Crystal Palace includes not only U.S. national team defender Chris Richards but U.S. soccer fans are familiar with the Eagles’ home stadium as Selhurst Park serves as the location for Ted Lasso and AFC Richmond’s home ground on the hit TV show.
“We are absolutely delighted to return to the U.S. for the first time since 2016,” Crystal Palace Chairman Steve Parish said. “We have so many loyal supporters Stateside who regularly visit us in London, and even more who wake up early every weekend to watch on NBC — so it will be a fantastic to play in front of them all against such strong opposition this July. ”
